GitHub has begun rolling out Claude Opus 4.5, Anthropic’s latest and most capable model, across its Copilot AI assistant platform. The integration brings significant performance improvements for professional developers, with early testing showing the model surpassing internal coding benchmarks while cutting token usage in half.
Broad Platform Availability#
Claude Opus 4.5 is accessible to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise subscribers through multiple interfaces. Users can select the model via the model picker in VS Code across Agent, Plan, Ask, and Edit modes, as well as through Copilot Chat on github.com, GitHub Mobile apps for iOS and Android, and the Copilot CLI.
The rollout is gradual, so availability may vary. During the promotional period, Claude Opus 4.5 will also serve as the default model for Copilot’s coding agent feature when enabled.
Promotional Pricing Window#
GitHub is offering Claude Opus 4.5 at a promotional 1x premium request multiplier through December 5, 2025—a notable discount for accessing Anthropic’s flagship model. After the promotional period ends, pricing is expected to reflect the model’s premium positioning in Anthropic’s lineup.
Admin Controls for Enterprise#
Enterprise and Business plan administrators must explicitly enable the Claude Opus 4.5 policy in Copilot settings before their organizations can access the model. Pro and Pro+ users in VS Code can enable access directly through the model picker with a one-time confirmation prompt.
Performance Focus#
The model’s reduced token usage while maintaining superior benchmark performance makes it particularly attractive for professional development environments where efficiency matters. Anthropic has positioned Opus 4.5 as its most capable model for complex reasoning and extended coding tasks—capabilities that translate directly to the pair programming workflows Copilot enables.
The addition continues GitHub’s strategy of offering multiple AI model options within Copilot, allowing developers to choose the model best suited to their specific tasks. With Claude Opus 4.5 joining existing options, developers now have access to one of the most diverse AI model selections available in any coding assistant platform.
